Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I see a counsellor?
Talking with a counsellor gives you a safe space to work through your concerns, build coping strategies, and gain more self-awareness. While you’re the expert on your life, I can help you find ways to manage stress, work through relationship issues, or just offer support when you need someone to talk to. I won’t diagnose any mental health conditions, but I will work with you to develop practical strategies to cope and move forward.
How many sessions should I attend?
The number of sessions depends on the support you need and the goals you set early on. Some people may need just a few sessions, while others might want ongoing support. We’ll figure out the right number together based on what feels best for you.
Can I claim any part of the session cost through Medicare?
At the moment, Medicare rebates aren’t available for counselling.
What happens if I need to cancel?
If you need to cancel, please give me at least 24 hours’ notice. Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice won’t be refunded, though I may consider exceptional circumstances.
What if I don’t feel like the sessions are working?
If you’re feeling like the sessions aren’t helping, let me know right away so we can address it together. The counsellor-client relationship is key to success, so I want to make sure we’re on the right track for you.
Why is payment taken before the session?
Taking payment before the session helps keep things smooth and straightforward. It ensures we can make the most of our time together without interruptions.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is all about getting to know each other and understanding why you’re seeking counselling right now. It might feel emotional or confronting, or it might not—every experience is different. My goal is to help you feel comfortable and at ease as we start to explore your story.
Will my information be private?
Your privacy is incredibly important to me. I use secure systems to keep everything confidential. What we talk about stays between us, with one exception: if there’s something that could harm your well-being or someone else’s, I’m legally required to report it. I’ll explain this in detail during your first session, so you’ll know exactly how confidentiality works.
